About Dr Tom Mitchell

Hi! I’m Dr Tom Mitchell – veterinarian, dog behaviourist, founder of Behavet and Help! My Dog, passionate dog trainer and forever dog lover. My journey into dog training and behaviour transformation began long before any formal education, walking dogs across the fields of rural Yorkshire and dreaming of making a difference.

My early experiences and a pivotal moment of being bitten by a fearful dog during my veterinary studies cemented my purpose: not just treating dogs medically but giving them the skills to navigate the world confidently.

Over the years, I developed concept training into a proven method that transforms even the most complex behaviour struggles, from reactivity to separation anxiety to aggression and fear-based challenges. Through Behavet, we have supported thousands of pets worldwide, earning the trust of over 7,000 veterinary professionals and 300 veterinary practices and becoming the world’s largest online veterinary behaviour clinic.

I’ve always believed that struggling dogs aren’t “bad dogs”. They’re simply under-equipped to thrive in this world full of challenges. My concept training approach empowers dogs to build emotional resilience, optimism, calmness and focus through practical, reward-based games and strategies rooted in neuroscience.

My mission is simple: bring science-led, effective, life-changing support to dogs and their families no matter how big the struggle.

In 2023, I expanded my mission by founding Help! My Dog, an online platform and #1 podcast devoted to bringing fun, accessible dog behaviour solutions to pet parents everywhere. The Help! My Dog Podcast quickly climbed the charts, helping dog owners tackle behaviour struggles with hope, humour and science.

Everything I do comes back to the one mission: giving dog owners hope and a clear path to achieve the life they dream of with their pets.
